C'era un tempo in cui di cinese avevamo solo le stampe e le lacche...

Il testo dice:

They even had the time to appreciate the result.
The deep, glowing colors. The finish so flawless its seemed almost liquid to the touch.
Today the art of Chinese lacquer is rightly considered too extravagant for all but a few things.
For example, the S.T. Dupont lighter.

La laccatura cinese è stata inventata così tanti secoli fa che anche i Cinesi hanno dimenticato quando.
Ovviamente era un'epoca in cui le persone avevano il tempo di applicare a mano uno strato di lacca dopo l'altro. E di passare ore levigando a mano la lacca tra ciascuno strato.
E avevano addirittura il tempo di apprezzare il risultato.
I brillanti colori intensi. La finitura così liscia che al tatto sembrava quasi liquida.
Oggi l'arte della laccatura cinese è ritenuta giustamente troppo stravagante per quasi tutti gli oggetti, tranne alcuni.
Per esempio, per gli accendisigari S.T. Dupont.
