What we lost in pounds we gained in power.
When the readers of PC World magazine once again voted our lightweight T3100 "Top Laptop", we were flattered.
And when PC Week gave it their Corporate Satisfaction Award, we were equally honored. Everyone seemed to agree it was perfect.
Except us. Because we believe there's always room for improvement, we made a few not-so-minor adjustments to what's always been our most popular machine.
First reduced its weight by nearly two pounds and renamed it the T3100e. (The "e", by the way, stands for enhanced.)

Le poche volte che l'ho portato in giro, proprio appena uscì in Italia, (1988 o 1989) coi suoi dieci chili mi ci sono indolenzito le spalle ma dei portatili Toshiba ho un ottimo ricordo, per la qualità e le prestazioni; nel mio lavoro i laptop, di lì a qualche anno, avrebbero definitivamente sostituito quegli ingombranti cassoni rumorosi e aspira-polvere dei desktop.

Nonostante ciò, nel suo piccolo ingombro (è largo circa trenta centimetri e non arriva a tanto in profondità) c'è tutta la potenza di un PC da tavolo.

Se otto chili e mezzo vi sembrano pochi, provate a portarlo sulle spalle per qualche ora. Per non dir nulla del video a fosfori arancione.

Toshiba Dynapad T200 (1994)

Non ho mai avuto il piacere neppure di vederlo, mentre il Compaq Concerto di un paio di anni prima l'ho usato per qualche settimana.
Un grasso iPad-like da 2 kg, grande come un foglio A4; il cuore: un processore Intel 486 DX2 a 40 MHz, 4 MB di RAM standard e un hard disk da 80 Mb.

Toshiba T3100/20 (1987)

Anche Toshiba, come già Ericsson, magnifica il suo video a caratteri arancione.

Non si può negare che il contrasto con lo sfondo nero fosse molto elevato ma, a mio personale avviso, molto meglio i classici fosfori verdi che questo video al plasma.
Indubbiamente, andarsene in giro con un portatile, alla fine degli anni ottanta, non era cosa di tutti i giorni: si attiravano molti sguardi; quanto poi al sostenere che il T3100 non rompesse la schiena, beh, provate a farlo voi un chilometro e più con una zavorra del genere su una spalla!
